Delete, delete, delete….that’s what I’ve been doing….reality finally hit, I am now grieving the change in Salina’s quality of life. That’s all I have to say today….just shedding some tears…everything happened so fast and unexpected and it just hit me.
Please come over to the forums and tell us what’s going on with Salina.

We can only tell you that many get very discouraged during the two weeks of recovery. You will have lots of support at the forums.

stop with the self deprivation!!! we all hate the first weeks!! we all feel guilty!! you did what you had to do to save salina’s life. you did what you did because you love her too much to loose her! do you lover her less?? no, you love her with every ounce of love you have. does she love you less?? no, she only knows she loves you completely.
her life has changed. your life has changed. maybe, if you stop hating the change, you can eventually find the good in the change. we all have self doubt and anger with this surgery – it’s human. try to be less ‘human’ with this, and try to be more ‘salina’. be the love that she is, be brave, be supportive, wag your tail even when it hurts to wag. you can do it. you will do it.
go blow your nose and wipe your face and give her hugs til you pass out from exhaustion! then get up and start over.

It’s only been six days. Hang in there, and feel free to vent anytime. Just not around Salina. She needs you to be a strong pack leader now or recovery will be long and miserable.
As Dr. Waldman said, if you want things to be normal you must act normal.
The first week is very dissapointing. My dog Lyndon just had his surgery and the first day he was doiong really good and I was so happy. But then the second day wasn’t as good, and I’m sure the next won’t be much better. I think that its like the old saying, “the night is darkest just before the dawn.” It gets a bit worse before it gets better. Salina is probably stating to come down a bit from the euphoria of being home again, and the incision is healing which makes it a bit more sore and itchy. The best you can do is try to stay postitive for her and give her time to heal and adapt. I’m sure by the time she gets her stitches out she will be back to normal and your feelings of doubt will have alleviated. Any dog in a new situation will have their ups and downs in deeling with it, just like humans. Just remember that you did this to help her, because you love her and because it was the best decision in a bad situation.
Hang in there, and you’ll get eachother through this. You and Salina will be in my thoughts,
