Sutures Out!

It’s been nine days and Salina had her surtures removed, to me they appeared like little staples.  She healed well, now have to work on the open sore in her rear area.  Today we bought size 2T underwear and maxi pads, I put her right leg and tail through the leg holes with a maxi pad attached to the underwear to protect her open sore.  Just a little adjustment with a safety pin in the waist and it seems to work ok!  I am going to place the honey & sugar paste on her sore when we go to bed.  She greeted a new guest with a wagging tail and couldn’t wait to walk over to her and be pet!  Our vet did say her right leg may remain that way (unable to use).  We still don’t know what is in her spinal cord that is causing this nerve damage, itt just blows my mind that this happened so quickly.

What is the prognosis of being on prednisone?

Prednisone makes them very restless and wired. They also get very thirsty and have to pee alot. Really it is not much different than the pills they are on for the recovery. Make sure that you follow the instructions for how to give the pills, because if you don’t taper them off correctly Salina will have a harder time adjusting to being off of them. When Lyndon took prednisone he didn’t sleep at all! That, of course, meant that I didn’t sleep at all. Other than that its really not that big a deal.
    Good luck, Lyndon’s mama

great news the staples are out!! and wonderful that you found some ‘undies’ that fit as well – a true fashion statement no doubt (we need pictures). we used the sugar on gayle’s sore elbow, it really worked well. sounds a little ‘backwoodsy’ but we swear by it, and i’ve even put it in my own cuts. we sure hope you can figure out the spinal issues too.. but glad all else is settling into place!!
